The inspiration
The intention with my work is to evoke that quiet nostalgia of the uninhabited places and of lost things re-found. To create one of a kind pieces that are uncommon, raw and full of heart. The kind of ware that can be worn with the ease of your favorite t-shirt and also add the perfect adornment for your finest outfit.
I’ve always thought it important from the beginning of Burn & Bloom is that the pieces I create have earthy aspects. such as wild flowers, animals and landscapes. From the stones I choose, to the designs that follow. That they are inspired by adventure, spark adventure and crafted for your life adventures.
Taking it one step further most of the jewelry I make has also been on an adventure with me- packed securely on my back they’ve joined me to many of my favorite trails, cherished viewpoints and prized swimming holes. It’s another way that I feel connected to my work and send them out in the world with a taste for the natural world.
Each piece has its own story, one that starts with me and ends with one of you.
The Beginning
I spent most of my childhood in central Maine where my imagination had free reign as I climbed trees, built forts and ran barefoot in the dirt. I’ve always had an affinity for wild things, and for the most part I was a wild thing. Giving up on trying to fit myself into everyone else’s box, I set out to forge my own path…
I had wanted to try metalsmithing for years, until I ran out of excuses as to why it wasn’t “the right time”. I took a class and immediately fell in love. The work felt primal and intentional and I couldn't get enough. I began accruing the basic tools I needed, including a second hand butane torch from my dad- stones I had squirreled away for a year and a big box of odds and ends I got from a friend. The idea of Burn & Bloom came fast as everything in me knew this was what I was always meant to do.
When I am not at the bench you can find me in the White Mountains where I live, out roaming the trails, whether we are on skis, in a harness, on foot or mountain bikes. I am a huge fan of vintage floral prints, yard sales, and falling asleep immediately upon opening any book to read. I love ice cream for dinner, Westerns and the Grateful Dead.. I take my whiskey 2 fingers high with 3 cubes, am currently writing my first short story and I still climb trees whenever the mood strikes
